Eco Scheme
The Eco-Scheme was introduced as part of CAP 2023 – 2027 and aims at rewarding farmers from all farming sectors and different levels of intensity for undertaking agricultural practices that are beneficial to the climate, environment, water quality and biodiversity. The Eco-Scheme is voluntary, and farmers will have the opportunity to opt in or out on an annual basis.
Eligibilty
- Meet the definition of an “Active Farmer”.
- Submit a BISS Application each year via the online application system and apply for the scheme by turning on the toggle on the BISS online application form.
- Deliver two Agricultural Practices (AP) or one enhanced AP annually on all eligible hectares.
Farmers can choose from a list of eight APs when completing the Eco-Scheme application:
• AP1 – Space for Nature.
• AP2 – Extensive Livestock Production.
• AP3 – Limiting Chemical Nitrogen Usage.
• AP4 – Planting of Native Trees and/or Hedgerows.
• AP5 – Use of GPS controlled spreader/sprayer.
• AP6 – Soil Sampling and Appropriate Liming.
• AP7 – Planting of a Break Crop.
• AP8 – Sowing of Multi-Species Sward.
