Tellus Border Soils and Tellus Border Drainage Projects:
OCAE Consultants Ltd were the appointed contractor for the Tellus Border Soils Project and the Tellus Border Drainage Project over a seven month period from 2011-2012. This project involved the collection of 7,108 soil samples from 3,554 locations across six counties. The Tellus Border Drainage Project involved sampling at 3520 unique locations, involving 3728 water samples, 3427 sediment samples, 3427 heavy concentrate panned mineral samples and 2432 vegetation samples. The resulting data from the Tellus Border survey was then integrated with the existing Tellus geochemical data of Northern Ireland by the GSI.
The Tellus North Midlands Soils Project
OCAE Consultants Ltd. were the appointed contractor for the Tellus North Midlands Soils Sampling Project in July 2014 in conjunction with the GSI. This phase of the project sampled a further 2654 unique sites in the north midlands region of Ireland, including areas in Roscommon, Longford, Westmeath, Mayo, Galway, Kildare, Meath, Offaly & Tipperary. The survey comprises the collection soil samples from two depth intervals at each sample site, as per the sampling procedures and methodologies developed and employed during previous regional geochemical surveys undertaken in both the UK by the British Geological Survey and in Ireland by the GSI. It is intended to merge the data acquired through this part of Tellus North Midlands with the existing data sets of Tellus North Midlands, Tellus Border and Tellus in Northern Ireland. OCAE Consultants Ltd. were the appointed contractor for The Tellus North Midlands Soils Sampling extension which took place in late 2014. This latest phase of Tellus sampled a further 1619 unique sites in the north eastern midlands region of Ireland, including sections of counties Meath, Dublin, Kildare, Offaly, Laois, Tipperary & Galway. As with previous Tellus project phases, the overall aim was to determine a regional-scale geochemical baseline from representative soil samples based upon an ad-hoc gridded survey method.
OCAE completed its contract with Tellus in 2017.
