edie has partnered with Big Clean Switch – the campaign which encourages people to transition to clean energy – to launch a new survey which investigates how businesses are engaging with their landlords and managing agents on the switch to renewables.
The 8-minute survey asks edie readers about the current challenges they face when attempting to source renewables in tenanted properties
The survey, which takes less than 10 minutes to complete, is designed for in-house energy managers and practitioners who are responsible for managing and reducing the energy of their organisation’s buildings.

Respondents to the survey will be entered into a prize draw to win a £50 Sustainable Reward Voucher from Jump. The eco-voucher can be used in an online shop, which features a range of more than 1,000 products, all of which have been approved by a sustainability advisory panel.
Hundreds of businesses across the country have announced commitments to source renewable energy to power some or all of their operations. Where a business owns its properties, the transition to clean energy is directly manageable; but for businesses whose properties are controlled by a landlord or managing agent, the switch to renewables can be a far more complex challenge.
With that in mind, edie has partnered with Big Clean Switch to explore the extent of this challenge, and identify ways in which energy and sustainability managers can engage with and inspire landlords to join the renewables revolution.
Commenting on the partnership, Big Clean Switch’s partnerships and campaigns director Kasia Morgan said: “Big Clean Switch are pleased to be working with edie to explore the challenges faced by organisations looking to switch their landlord-owned properties to renewable energy.
“Our evidence to date suggests that a number of barriers exist for organisations when engaging with landlords on energy management across their rented properties, and especially in relation to transitioning to renewable energy.
“We look forward to undertaking research to identify and quantify these challenges more clearly, publishing the findings in a report which will also propose some solutions for making the transition to clean energy as easy and mutually beneficial as possible. This report will be launched in time for London Climate Action Week in July.”

Specifically, the survey explores the current difficulties that businesses face when attempting to source renewables in tenanted properties; and the opportunities that exist to collaborate more effectively with landlords and managing agents on energy and sustainability.
The survey will help to inform a new report being developed by edie and Big Clean Switch which will analyse the responses and outline an array of action points, case studies and expert viewpoints which will edie readers with the insight, inspiration and innovations they need to go 100% renewable for the tenanted properties. That report will be published in the summer.
