To mark Fashion Revolution Week 2019, episode 61 of the Sustainable Business Covered podcast sees reporter Sarah George quiz some of the key figures helping to make the fashion sector a more planet-friendly and ethical industry.
Episode 61 of edie’s Sustainable Business Podcast offers three exclusive interviews spanning across the sustainable fashion sphere, covering everything from national policy and high-street brands to small-scale innovation and new business models.
Hosted exclusively by edie reporter Sarah George, this special episode has been created to mark Fashion Revolution Week (18-24 April 2019), a global event uniting stakeholders across the world in seven days of action, with the overall aim of co-creating a more ethical, transparent and sustainable fashion future.
First up, Sarah interviews Fashion Revolution’s Founder and director Cary Sommers to discuss how the movement has grown since it was set up after the Rana Plaza disaster in 2013 – and how this has driven change from businesses, policymakers and consumers alike.
Following that, she dials into Cornwall for a catch-up with outdoor clothing brand Finisterre’s founder Tom Kay, who sheds some light on how the wider sector has progressed (or failed to make positive moves) over the past 16 years, and what role his sub-sector has played in these trends.
For the final part of the episode, Sarah is joined by Turtle Doves founder Kate Holbrook, who founded her small recycled cashmere brand after spotting a gap in the market for closed-loop gloves. Holbrook provides insight into what role SMEs can play in driving a sector-wide sustainability shift.
